The guy you're talking to is trying to trip you into admitting something *he* thinks you did. Even if something as simple as misunderstanding you or your intentions creeps up, at the minimum, you're risking saying something where you get do and do not or did and did not backwards, or that he remembers it backwards. It's better to just avoid it.
